A Critical Need: Expanding to Save More Lives

At Animal Harbor, every kennel represents a second chance—a safe place where an abandoned or homeless dog can heal, grow, and find their way to a loving home.

Our top priority is to create lifesaving opportunities for as many dogs as possible. To achieve this, Animal Harbor is committed to operating with the highest standards of management and care. Our goal is to be recognized as a center of excellence in animal rescue, ensuring that every dog we help has the best chance at a better future.

Right now, we are facing a problem that is preventing us from reaching the level of excellence that we want to achieve. With the rise of infectious diseases, particularly upper respiratory infections and parasitic infections in incoming dogs, our current facility is not equipped to provide the necessary care while keeping our healthy dogs safe. We do not have a true stand-alone, properly ventilated isolation space, which means a single sick dog can put our entire shelter population at risk. 

Without proper separation, the spread of illness forces us to temporarily shut down intakes—leaving dogs in desperate situations with nowhere to go.

At the same time, kennel space is at a breaking point. Animal Harbor is always full, operating at max capacity with a waitlist of dogs in urgent need. We simply don’t have enough space to keep up with the demand.

To become the center of excellence that we want to be, we have to pursue expansion of our facilities.​
